Sewing Workshop - "DEBUT" or "PRIMA" Semi-Stretch Ballet Bodice from Tutu Studio Borealis + Pleating Intensive (Intermediate+)

The “DEBUT" and "PRIMA" semi-stretch ballet bodice and panty patterns by Tutu Studio Borealis are "a new generation tutu bodice design bringing the functionality and comfort of stretch bodices, yet maintaining the support and flattering appearance of professional tutus". This hybrid bodice has an elegant longline design with a deep insert, which creates a lovely extension to the neckline. The only distinction with the PRIMA pattern is the more generous bust curve. The pattern has a back opening with spiral steel boning (supplied) and hook and bar closures. It comes with stretch knickers and marked net lines for the addition of a pancake, bell or romantic tutu skirt.

In this workshop, participants will be taught the Sugar Plum Performance Tutus formula for a hand-tacked 11-layer pancake tutu skirt with pleated top and bottom layers, and hoop. All materials for hand tacking and hooping your tutu will be supplied.

The workshop will include a pleating intensive to create double hand-rolled pleats that stack beautifully around the perimeter of your tutu skirt. A complete set of pleating tools will be supplied.

The TSB hybrid patterns are designed for semi-stretch materials, such as double knit scuba, but can be made with 2-way stretch fabrics, such as stretch satin. The patterns can also be modified to suit 4-way stretch fabrics, such as Spandex and Italian Linel.

Intermediate tutu making skills are recommended for this workshop because it is a 2-day workshop that will focus on bodice construction and pleating, with a demonstration of hooping and hand-tacking. Participants may need to finish off the skirt at home. For the September workshop in Wangaratta and the December workshop in Highett, participants are welcome to stay on for a third day at no extra cost to complete their tutu.

Participants will be asked to select their pattern size prior to the workshop. All participants will receive a pattern and detailed instructions from our friends at Tutu Studio Borealis.

Workshops are delivered in a small group format (max 6) by Melissa from Sugar Plum Performance Tutus. Melissa has many years' experience sewing, costuming, tutu making and teaching sewing classes. She is passionate about classical ballet costumes!

Full workshop fee for 2 days is $650. Pay $200 to book, and the balance 7 days prior.
